Andrea Szántó - Mezzo-soprano
Andrea Szántó sang Kundry in Wagner´s: Parsifal , the title role of Carmen, Waltraute(Götterdämmerung) and Ahrosimova in Prokofiew’s War and Pace at the Hungarian State Opera House’s 2022/23 saison. Her roles in the Saison 2023/24 at the Hungarian State Opera House are: Kundry(Parsifal), Waltraute(Götterdämmerung), Maria Dmitrievna Akhrosimova(War and Peace), Maddena(Rigoletto) and the Innkeeper in the new production of Mussorgsky’s Boris Godunow.
Andrea Szántó became the Chamber Singer 2022/23 at the Hungarian State Opera House and received the Zoltán Závodszky Prize for her interpretation of Wagner heroines in 2022.
Andrea Szántó was born in Hungary. She completed her studies at the Academy of Music in Budapest.
After her studies she was engaged by the Hungarian State Opera House, she was the member of the Bielefeld Theatre. She has been the soloist for 13 years at the National Theatre Mannheim.
Her repertoire includes: the title role of Eboli(Don Carlo), Amneris(Aida), Santuzza(Cavalleria rusticana), Preziosilla(La forza del destino), Laura(Gioconda), Elisabetta( Maria Stuarda), Adalgisa(Norma), Kundry(Parsifal), Ortrud(Lohengrin), Venus(Tannhäuser), Judith (Bluebeard´s Castle), Marina(Boris Godunow), Charlotte(Werther), Dalila(Samson et Dalila) and the title role of Carmen.
She worked with conductors: Christoph Eschenbach, Michel Tilson-Thomas, Axel Kober, Tamás Vásáry, Peter Eötvös, Ádám Fischer, Iván Fischer, Riccardo Frizza, Kobayashi Ken-Ichiro, Howard Williams, Dan Ettinger, Herbert Boek, Sir Richard Armstrong, Zoltán Kocsis, János Kovács and Vjekoslav Sutej.
She worked with stage directors : Calixto Bieito, Michal Znanieczki, Hans Neuenfels, André Engel, Christopher Alden, Achim Freyer, Jens-Daniel Herzog, Olivier Tambosi és Philipp Himmelmann.
Andrea has also a wide range of concert repertoire and rercently she started new recital and chamber music projects too.
She performed in various Festivals and Opera Houses in Europe, Eastern Europe and Japan.
